Case : Rainwater harvesting – 800 m3
Volume : 800 m3
Field of activity : Farmer
Stored liquid : Rainwater
Description :

800 m3 rainwater recovery :

  • Farm with no natural source
  • 320 ewes & 160 calves
  • 3200 m² of roof area
  • Cost of drinking water: €200/day or €73,000/year

Water treatment process / Filtration and disinfection stages :

  • Pre-filtration: 5-micron cartridge
  • Activated carbon filtration: eliminates taste/odour
  • UV treatment: eliminates viruses and bacteria
  • Chlorination: maintains sanitary quality throughout the circuit
Objective :

The aim of this storage system is to limit drinking water consumption, use cleaner water when the ponds are used for livestock watering, and make significant financial savings.

Performance & Gains :

  • 38% of needs covered by rainwater
  • Time and labor saved:
  • No need to transport water to the fields
  • No more trips to the ponds.
Reasons for their choice :

The customer was able to benefit from subsidies to finance the project. This was a considerable help in setting up this rainwater storage system.
The flexible cistern enables them to store a large volume of water (800 m3), thanks to the large ground surface available on their site and a large roof surface.

On the one hand, this closed storage prevents the water from evaporating, and therefore keeps the quantity of water recovered without loss. On the other hand, unlike ponds or open pits, the flexible cistern prevents external elements from altering water quality (animals, insects, leaves, bacteria, etc.).
